The mix of ages in the space facilitates the provision of a wide range of activities to interest all children, provide them with a varied experience, extended opportunities to learn and to develop their learning at their own pace.

All of toys and resources are freely accessible. This enables the children to choose what they want to play with and when, which in turns fosters the skills of confidence and independence. At times, children will be invited to take part in a range of adult led activities. These are planned to meet the children’s interests, needs and development.

In our Toddler and Pre-School room, we begin to introduce more structure to our activities and daily routine to begin preparing the children for their next steps in learning, development and school. Children are encouraged and supported to tidy away resources when they have finished playing with them. Healthy, locally sourced foods are provided each day and children are encouraged and supported to make their own choices at snack and meal times. The children also learn to pour their drinks, serve their own food and wipe their face and hands.

It is important that children have the opportunity to explore the outdoor environment each day. Our outdoor space has a range of resources and equipment that supports the development of all areas of learning.

Each child has their own peg and staff will encourage children to hang their coat on their peg to develop skills of self help and independence. We would be grateful if you could send your child to Nursery with at least one spare set of clothes in a bag that can also be hung on their peg. Please ensure that items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
